If there is one thing that wine lovers know well, it is the moment after drinking that glass of wine. It is not that we are always pouring our drink. But it is often inevitable to stain something around us when we toast or take a sip. If a little while ago we gave you some little tricks to remove the trace of our wine from our clothes, pay attention. Here are some new tips to remove wine stains from various surfaces in the house: wood or walls.
Wine stains on wood
The best thing to do in these cases is to act quickly. Take a damp cloth and wipe the affected area, whether it is the table or the floorboard. In this way, you will be able to absorb a large amount of the liquid before it soaks into the surface, as wood is a very porous material. Afterwards, you can then wipe with furniture wax to preserve the natural appearance of the wood.
This measure does not guarantee that the stain will be completely removed. So here are some other tricks you can use: strong bleach, soap and oil, or a bicarbonate tablet. If you don’t have any of these products to hand, a steel wool sponge is also useful. Although it “scratches” the surface, it removes the stain and can always be patched up with wood varnish.
Finally, a tip that also tends to work quite well and compensates when we can’t act as quickly as we would like. The idea is to apply a heat source (e.g. a hairdryer) and try to remove the moisture that is absorbed.
Wine stains on the wall
Did you know the saying that one nail drives out another nail? To remove wine stains from the wall we are going to use… wine! Just as you read it. Soak a clean sponge in white wine and apply it to the stain on the wall, with gentle movements and light taps. Be very careful because the idea is to remove the stain, not the paint.
Although this drink serves as a cleaner, there are also other products such as bleach or hydrogen peroxide. The problem is that it is not applicable to any wall: only white or very light coloured walls. Because as we said before, we don’t want to remove the tone of this surface.
If you did not know these tricks, we encourage you to try them. Because the important thing is to cheers and enjoy the little moments. No matter what we stain or not.
