Chocolate, like wine, is one of the great gastronomic pleasures we can find. Just by tasting a small dose of either of these two products we can be aware of the intense and delicious flavour of both. Today we tell you the best ideas to combine them and enjoy them together on the occasion of International Chocolate Day, which will be celebrated on 13 September.
The celebration of this day dates back to 1955 when it was established as a tribute to Roald Dahl, author of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and Milton Hersheys, American confectioner and founder of “The Hershey Chocolate Company”. And for all of us who adore this food, it is the perfect excuse to pay a little tribute to it. That’s why from Barcolobo today we want to show you the best ideas so you can enjoy the delicious taste of chocolate accompanied by a glass of our best wines. Sit back and enjoy!
Pairing wine and chocolate
The first point to take into account is the intensity of both products. Both chocolate and wine can have a very powerful flavour and therefore we must find the right balance so that one does not mask the flavour of the other.
For our red wines with more body, such as Jaral or La Rinconada, it is advisable to go for a strong chocolate flavour, either in the form of bars, bonbons or a creative confectionery product such as cakes and pastries. In this case our recommendation is a bitter dark chocolate or a dessert with a strong chocolate flavour.
In the case of our Victoria, which is one of the milder reds, you can opt for a slightly lighter chocolate, for example, a chocolate with a higher milk content or a sweet with a lower chocolate content.
And if you are one of those who enjoy our Verdejo or our Lacrimae Rerum rosé, you will know that its fruity tone cannot be lost under any circumstances. To enjoy these fruity aromas, we recommend that you choose a lighter and less intense chocolate, such as white chocolate.
Now that you know how to combine your two pleasures, you are ready to enjoy International Chocolate Day, choose your favourite Barcolobo and enjoy the chocolate of your choice. Enjoy!
